VASHON ISLAND — The East Jefferson volleyball team swept Vashon 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-12) to snap a nine-game losing streak.
It was the sixth win of the year for the Rivals (6-12 overall).
Sophia Petta served 26 times with six aces. She had nine kills and 25 digs. Carina Shiflett had seven kills, while Emma Joy added five kills. Gracee Liske served 18 times with four aces.
East Jefferson plays at Bellevue Christian today.
PC women remain No. 1
The undefeated Peninsula College women’s soccer team remained the No. 1-ranked junior college team in the nation in a poll released Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the men are ranked No. 4 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches Association among division II junior colleges.
The women, 11-0-0 overall, are also No. 1 in the NWAC. They were No. 1 in the previous national poll released Oct. 8.
The women finish their regular season Oct. 30 at second-place Bellevue, looking to finish their season perfect. They will get to host an NWAC quarterfinal game on Nov. 9.
Despite remaining unbeaten, the men dropped one spot from No. 3 on Oct. 8 to No. 4 in Tuesday’s poll. The Pirates did have a 3-3 tie last week against Everett, but remain No. 1 in the NWAC and the North Region champion at 12-0-1.
The men wrap up their home season at noon Saturday against Shoreline and then host a playoff game on Nov. 9.
Two other NWAC men’s teams made the national rankings. Walla Walla (12-2-3) is ranked No. 9 and Skagit Valley No. 13 (9-5-0). Peninsula beat Skagit Valley twice this season, 4-0 and 2-1.
Soccer League update
PORT ANGELES — Strait Slice moved into second place with a 4-2 victory over Windemere and High Energy Metals was able to hold off an upset from Meyer Electric 3-2 to remain on top of the standings of the Peninsula Soccer League.
Strait Slice got a hat trick from Isiah Jindrich and a goal from Jay Marazon, while Stewart Methner scored both goals for Windemere.
High Energy Metals got two goals from Dustin Walsh and one from Jake Hughes. Meyer Electric got a goal from Brandon Wagner and another from Josiah Long.
In other games, the Bandidos beat Ediz Hook FC 5-0. The Bandidos got two goals each from Cedrick Bailey and C.J. Daniels and another from Chris Lopes.
Salazar Painting beat Los Primos 3-0. Rafa Flores scored a pair of goals, while Sergio Salazar picked up a goal for Salazar Painting.
Forks FC beat Pantry & Latch 6-2. Hugo Sandoval had a hat trick for Forks FC, while Sergio Ordones, Julio Moroto and Lilli Galliana all scored. Michael Ingraham scored both of Pantry & Latch’s goals.
High Energy Metals leads the latest standings at 7-0-1 (22 points), while Strait Slice is in second at 6-1-1 (19 points). Forks FC is in third at 6-2-0 (18 points) and Salazar Painting fourth at 5-2-1 (16 points).
