AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Former Riders’ XC teammates compete in college

SALEM, Ore. — Former Port Angeles Roughriders teammates Jack Gladfelter and Max Baeder competed against each other at the 49th annual Charles Bowles 8K Cross-Country Invitational in Salem, Ore., this weekend.

Gladfelter, competing for Corban University in Salem, finished seventh out of 281 runners and set a personal record time of 23 minutes, 59.8 seconds, just 12 seconds out of first place, set by Daniel Butler of the College of Idaho. Eight kilometers is about five miles.

Baeder, now competing for The Evergreen State College in Olympia, finished 78th, also with a personal-best time of 25:46.9.

Both schools compete in the NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference.

While at Port Angeles High School, Gladfelter finished third in the state at the 2A cross-country championships in 2022 while Baeder finished 15th in the same race.

Soccer results

PORT ANGELES — High Energy Metals and Windermere each won close one-goal games Sunday to remain tied on top of the standings in the Peninsula Soccer League..

High Energy Metals won 2-1 over Los Primos, getting goals from Ascher Bridge and Jake Hughes. Christian Cortes Flores scored for Los Primos.

Windermere also won 2-1 over Forks FC, getting goals from brothers Andrew and Stuart Methner. Hugo Sandoval scored for Forks FC.

In other games Salazar Painting and Meyer Electric tied 3-3. Luis Galvan scored two goals for Salazar Painting, while Pablo Salazar added a goal. Javier Gomez, Brandon Wagner and Sebastian Buch scored for Meyer Electric.

Pantry & Latch defeated Ediz Hook 3-1, getting goals from Matt Heinen, Jazel White and Josie North. Oscar Del Rosario Mercedes scored for Ediz Hook.

Strait Slice beat Bandidos 3-1, getting goals from Jay Marazon, Isiah Jindrich and Taryn Asmus. Felix Morales Carranza scored for the Bandidos.

Windermere and High Energy Metals improved to identical 5-0-1 (16 points) records. Strait Slice moved into third place at 4-1 -1 (13 points), while Forks FC is in fourth at 4-2-0 (12 points)
