TUMWATER — Three Olympic Peninsula seniors won 16 medals at the state Seniors Track and Field championships last weekend in Tumwater.
Chuck Milliman of Sequim won six gold medals in the 90-94 age bracket. He took first in the 1,500 meters in a time of 13 minutes, 45.35 seconds, first in the 100 meters in a time of 24.8 seconds and first in the 50 meters in a time of 12.64 seconds.
He also took first in the pole vault with a height of 1 meter, first in the high jump with a height of 0.75 meters and first in the long jump at 1.76 meters.
Phil Milliman, also of Sequim, tied for a gold medal in the pole vault with a height of 2.6 meters and won a silver in the high jump at 1.3 meters in the 70-74 age bracket.
Bob Sheedy of Port Angeles in the 80-84 age bracket won seven medals. He took gold in the shot put at 9.83 meters and in the long jump at 2.63 meters.
Sheedy won silver in the pole vault (1.4 meters), discus (22.32 meters), javelin (23.73 meters), high jump (0.75 meters) and hammer (25.75 meters).
Mike Church of Sequim took silver in the 70-74 age group in the 1,500 meters with a time of 7:03.52.
Lefties postponed
NANAIMO, B.C. — The Port Angeles Lefties game against the Nanaimo NightOwls on Monday night was postponed until Tuesday. The Lefties played a doubleheader at Nanaimo, B.C., on Tuesday with a chance to get into at least a tie for first place in the North Division second half.
After a weekend sweep over the Kelowna Falcons, the Lefties went into Tuesday’s doubleheader with a 10-8 record in the second half, one game behind Wenatchee and Bellingham, both at 11-7. They were tied with Victoria.
The Lefties play Nanaimo again at 6:35 p.m. today, then return to Port Angeles for their final six games at Civic Field with their first postseason berth on the line. They play Edmonton Friday through Sunday and then the Cowlitz Black Bears Tuesday through Aug. 8.
The West Coast League playoffs begin Aug. 10 at sites to be determined.
