VANCOUVER, Wash. — Members of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association recently competed in their final regatta of the season, the U.S. Rowing Northwest District Championships.

The association’s Women’s Youth 4x+ crew of Emily Sirguy, Claire Tyson, Lisa Martin, Angelica Kennedy and coxswain Daniel Weaver pulled away from the back of the pack about 500 meters in to the 2,000-meter race, rowing fast in a heavy, borrowed boat to finish third.

The Novice Boys 4x+ team of Cyras Mills, Zach Gavin, Tyler Turner, Vince Pavlak and Claire Tyson raced in the fastest heat of the day and missed out on advancing by seconds after practicing together just once.

All of the association’s 1x rowers (Nathan Mishler, Aidan Feingold, Daniel Weaver, Jake McGovern and Maria England) posted personal records, with England winning her heat to advance to the finals.

Veronica Kennedy bested her time in the Lightweight 1x final by more than two minutes compared to 2016.

England competed in the novice single competing against tough competitors, even though she has had little practice time in such a challenging boat and is still learning to balance. She was in medal position in the last 200 meters when she tried to increase her stroke rate and flipped.

Olympic Peninsula Rowing will race in several summer regattas and host summer camp programs.
