LAKEWOOD — Port Angeles High School graduate Max Baeder set a school record for The Evergreen State Geoducks in the 6-kilometer race at the Green River Gator Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Going up against a number of runners from NCAA Div. I and Div. II schools, Baeder, a sophomore for the Geoducks, finished the men’s race in 47th with a time of 18 minutes, 44.9 seconds
“I’m incredibly excited about today’s performance,” said head cross-country coach Joel Pearson. “Lots of personal bests and a school record for Max. Great day to be a Geoduck.”
Baeder transferred to The Evergreen State from Clark College this year. He graduated from Port Angeles in 2022. That year, he was fifth in the Westside District Cross-County championships and 17th at the state 2A meet. In his junior year in 2021, he was eighth in the Westside District meet and 16th at state.
Peninsula soccer update
PORT ANGELES — In Sunday action in the Peninsula Soccer League, Strait Slice beat Ediz Hook FC 3-0 with Jay Marazon, Sean Rankin and Christine Loewe scoring goals.
Windermere edged Los Primos 3-2 with Derek Schumacher scoring a hat trick for Windermere. Daniel Torres and Eduardo Torres scored for Los Primos.
In the most wild match of the day, Meyer Electric beat Pantry & Latch 7-6. Aaiden Galvin played a half for both teams and scored four goals total, two for Meyer Electric and two for Pantry & Latch.
Brandon Wagner, Dru Clark, Ron Welches, Piper Williams and Santiago Musso all scored for Meyer Electric, while Michael Ingraham scored two goals for Pantry & Latch, and Ben Stanley and Alex Lopez each scored a goal.
Bandidos FC beat Forks FC 6-4 in another high-scoring match. Chris Lops had a hat trick for the Bandidos, while Emmanuel Patterson had two goals and C.J. Daniels a goal. For Forks FC, Oscar Gonzales, Sergio Ordonez, Hugo Sandoval and Gabriel Julio all had goals.
Finally, High Energy Metals beat Salazar Painting 2-1. Asher Greenewalt and Liam Harris scored for High Energy Metals while Rafael Flores put in a goal for Salazar Painting.
After this week’s action, Windermere and High Energy Metals are tied at the top of the standings with identical 2-0-1 records, while Salazar Painting, Bandidos FC, Forks FC and Meyer Electric are all right behind 2-1-0.
