AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Peninsula College basketball begins this weekend

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team just won the NWAC championship Sunday and the school is turning right around and quickly beginning the college basketball season this weekend.

The women’s team begins Friday against Walla Walla at the Wenatchee Tip-off Tournament, while the men will play a home exhibition game against BC Prep, a sports preparatory school in Surrey, B.C., at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The men and women’s teams will play at the Skagit Valley College Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 26-28. The men will host Northwest Indian College at 6 p.m. Dec. 1.

From Dec. 3-5, the men and women will host the annual Pirate Classic basketball tournament with teams from Grays Harbor, Olympic, Chemeketa, Lane, Edmonds, Wenatchee, Tacoma and Highline visiting Port Angeles.

The Peninsula women will play Grays Harbor at 4 p.m. Dec. 3, Chemeketa at 3 p.m. Dec. 4 and Highline at 4 p.m. Dec. 5. The men will play Lane at 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and Tacoma at 6 p.m. Dec. 5.

The men and women will continue with tournament season all through December at the Raider Classic at Pierce College, the Edmonds Classic, the South Puget Sound Crossover and the Yakima Crossover tournaments.

The men and women will begin North Region league play on Jan. 5, hosting teams from Edmonds College. League season will run through Feb. 23 with the NWAC tournament behind held from March 3-13.

Volleyball results

PORT ANGELES — Killin’ It improved its record to 5-0 Monday night with a 2-0 (25-12, 25-21) win over Hot Peppers in Peninsula Volleyball League B Division play.

Meanwhile, Harbinger got by Steim Dental 2-0 (25-20, 25-22). No Diggity and Timber Spikers both won by forfeit.
