PA, Chimacum teams academic champs
RENTON — The Port Angeles softball team and the Chimacum boys tennis team have won Washington Interscholastic Activities Association academic state championships for the 2018 spring sports season.
The Roughrider softball team won its fifth straight Olympic League championship this season, its fourth outright championship in a row, and will defend its West Central District 3 Championship beginning Friday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
Port Angeles posted a grade point average of 3.838 this spring.
Chimacum’s winning GPA was 3.794.
The winning teams will be presented with a special plaque at the upcoming WIAA state championships.
Bailey wins WIAA scholarship
RENTON — Forks senior track and field and cross country athlete Marissa Bailey has received a $1,000 Smart Choices Scholarship from the WIAA.
Bailey was one of four female finalists in the sixth annual scholarship competition. She can use the funds to attend the school of her choice.
Hurn honored by NWAC
EDMONDS — Edmonds Community College first baseman Evan Hurn has been selected to the Northwest Athletic Conference North Division Second Team for his play on the diamond this season.
Hurn, a sophomore from Sequim, is hitting .350 with four home runs and 38 RBIs for the Tritons.
Edmonds (38-7) won the North Division title and earned a berth in the NWAC Baseball Championship at Story Field in Longview May 24-28.
