PORT ANGELES — The Queen of Angels School had its first volleyball team since the school’s opening in 1926, ending the season with a 7-3 record.

The sixth- to eighth-grade team is coached by Bill and Margarita Lee, who started the team in September and focused on foundational skills such as passing, serving and setting.

Queen of Angels played teams from Port Angeles, Forks, Quilcene, Joyce and Sequim. Two players, Kassandra Montero-Lee and Ella Desser, both made teams with the Dakine Volleyball Club based in University Place.

Queen of Angels is a private Catholic school based in Port Angeles.

State football update

OLYMPIA — Quilcene’s first-round state 1B football championships game against DeSales has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Ty Baffney Field in Walla Walla.

Quilcene (6-4) qualified for the state tournament by beating Lake Quinault 58-14 last week in a district playoff game.

DeSales, a private Catholic school based in Walla Walla, went 8-1 on the season and plays in the 1B Southeast Region.

Quilcene, last year’s state championship runner-up team, got off to a slow start this season and lost its starting quarterback Jayden Love for the year, but has since gone 5-1 over the past six weeks with the only loss to No. 2-ranked Neah Bay. The Rangers are a No. 11 seed and DeSales a No. 6 seed.

Neah Bay, the No. 2 seed in the state, has a bye in the first round. The Red Devils will play at Forks High School on either Nov. 18 or 19 against the winner of Pomeroy (No. 10) and Wellpinit (No. 7).

Peninsula hoops

PORT ANGELES — Bayview Flooring rolled past Arrow Marine 59-42 in Monday’s Peninsula Basketball League action.

John Textor scored 17 and Cody Holden 12 to lead the Bayview men. Kyler Rollness had 17 and Lambros Rogers nine for Arrow Marine.

Monday’s other game was canceled due to snowy weather.

Puget Sound anglers

SEQUIM — The Puget Sound Anglers North Olympic Peninsula Chapter will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Elks Lodge at 143 Port Williams Road in Sequim. The public is invited.

The group’s speaker this month is Jesse Reeves, Area 6 Water Access Manager with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. He plans to discuss the properties that WDFW has acquired or that it is pursuing for freshwater and saltwater public access.

There will be a short business meeting, fishing reports and raffle drawings following Reeves’ talk. Raffles are for members only. People can join that night to participate and the annual membership is $25, which includes The Reel News monthly.
