AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim’s Hurn playing in West Coast League

Sequim’s Hurn playing in WCL for Bellingham

BELLINGHAM — Sequim’s Evan Hurn is playing baseball for the West Coast League’s Bellingham Bells this summer.

Hurn is a 2016 Sequim graduate who played summer baseball for years with Wilder Baseball Club.

He just wrapped his freshman season with Edmonds Community College.

In three games with the Bells Hurn is batting 3 for 11 (.273 average) and has walked once and scored once.

Hurn played second base exclusively for Sequim and saw a lot of time at third base for Wilder. So far Bellingham has him playing the other side of the infield at first base.

The Bells visit the Port Angeles Lefties for a three-game series the weekend of July 7-9.

Hurn homered in his first-ever collegiate plate appearance for Edmonds.

He also hit a go-ahead home run that propelled the Titans to another victory.

Valley of the Trolls

GARDINER — Registration is underway for the third annual Valley of the Trolls, an event featuring a half-marathon, 10-kilometer and 5K races, that will be held Saturday, Aug. 19.

The event is held at Troll Haven Bandy Farms, a troll-themed property at 950 Gardiner Beach Road, beginning at 8 a.m.

Friends of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation organize the event.

They are challenging the citizens of Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Chimacum to compete. The town with the most runners will have a donation made to the town’s high school track and field program.

All finishers will get a T-shirt and medal.
