Moroles will compete for Coast Guard
SEQUIM — Miguel Moroles has received an appointment to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy, and while there he intends to compete for the school’s football and track and field teams.
Moroles is a 2015 Sequim High School graduate who started at quarterback for the Wolves’ football team as a junior and senior. He also ran the opening leg of the Class 2A state-champion 4×400-meter relay last May.
Moroles spent his freshman year at Washington State University.
He will begin training in this summer and plans to pursue a degree in engineering and earn his commission as a Coast Guard Officer.
Sequim adult soccer
SEQUIM — Registration is currently open for teams interested in playing in the spring community adult coed soccer league.
The eight-on-eight games take place at Albert Haller Fields at Carrie Blake Park.
Games will kick off on Friday, March 25, and will run through Friday, May 13. Weekly game times will be at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
There will be two divisions, gold and silver, for men and women. The gold league is designed for competitive players and the silver division is designed for players who prefer a less competitive recreational game.
Registration is $420 per team for up to 15 players, with two women required to be on the field.
Team captains must provide their team’s roster and preferred league by this Friday. Rosters can be emailed to sequimfc@gmail.com.
All team fees are due no later than the first day of games.
Individuals interested in playing in the league but not affiliated with a team can email sequimfc@gmail.com to request a team placement. All individual players must complete a registration form and waiver.

Middle school hoops
PORT ANGELES — The Queen of Angels middle school girls basketball team recently picked up wins in two of three contests.
Queen of Angels beat Crescent 50-6, topped Quilcene 43-20 and were knocked off by Neah Bay 46-27.
Against Crescent, Anna Petty led all scorers with 14 points for Queen of Angels, while Maggie Ruddell had 12 and Catie Brown added eight.
Emily Sirguy scored a bucket on her birthday and took down a number of rebounds, as did Bridget Catterson.
Tanesha Kazlavskas scored all of Crescent’s points.
Ruddell and Petty again led Queen of Angels against Quilcene, Ruddell scoring 12 points and Petty adding 10.
Bella Money chipped in with nine points and Taylor Peabody tossed in six more for Queen of Angels.
Neah Bay’s press was too much to handle in Queen of Angels’ loss.
Ruddell scored eights points, and Petty added seven.
Money led in the rebounding department and scored four points.
Tour de Dungeness
SEQUIM —The second race of the 19th annual Tour de Dungeness bike race is this Saturday.
Registration runs through the day of the event.
The 12-mile race starts at 9:45 a.m. and run until the late afternoon. The race will be held, regardless of weather.
Organizers expect more than 400 riders will come from throughout the Puget Sound region as well as Eastern Washington.
The course includes Lotzgesell, Cays, East Anderson, Sequim Dungeness Way, Woodcock and Kitchen-Dick roads.
Those who drive in the Dungeness area on the day of the race should be aware of the possibility of minor traffic delays.
“Use caution, be patient and let’s show them that we are a bicycle-friendly community,” organizer Mike Van Doren said in a news release.
Tim’s Custom Cabinets, at the corner of Kitchen-Dick and Lotzgesell roads, as loaned its parking lot for vehicle parking.

St. Paddy’s Fun Run
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department’s St. Paddy’s Day Fun Run/Walk is this Saturday.
The 5- and 10-kilometer run/walk, which starts at noon at City Pier, follows the Waterfront Trail out and back.
There will be shirts for pre-registered participants and some prizes for best costumes.
The cost is $23 for adults and $11 for ages 18 and younger.

PA wrestling club
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Wrestling Club began freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling practice this week.
Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Port Angeles High School wrestling room from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
