Swimmers compete

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Swim Club Head Coach Jessica Johnson recently took three swimmers to the Age Group Invitational Meet to compete with swimmers from 15 other swim teams from the Seattle area.

All three of our swimmers achieved top six finishes and each also qualified for the upcoming championship meet in Federal Way in December.

MacKenzie DuBois, 11, took first place in both the 100-yard and 50-yard butterfly. She was second in the 100 free, third in the 200 individual medley, and fourth in the 200 free.

All of her times qualified her for the December championship meet.

She also set a personal-best time with a sixth-place finish in the 50 free (29.27 seconds).

Josh Gavin, 12, placed second in the 500 free, fifth in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 free with championship qualifying times in all three events.

Though not quite fast enough for a championship qualifying time, his fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:33.09) broke the William Shore Memorial Pool record for his age group.

Adam Weller, 12, qualified for the December championship meet in both of his events with a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke, and a fifth-place finish in the 100 breast.
