AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Strait Slice to host snowboarding films Thursday

PORT ANGELES — Strait Slice will be hosting two snowboarding films from two of the most influential women snowboarders in the world, Jamie Anderson and Mary Rand, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Both women will be in Port Angeles to meet fans and sign autographs. Anderson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is from Lake Tahoe, Calif., Her board sponsor, GNU, is from Sequim and is part of Mervin Manufacturing, one of the largest snowboard manufacturers in the world.

Anderson’s film, “Reflections,” is the main event. Opening will be Rand’s “Giant Beasts, Tiny People.”

Rand’s film takes place in the mountains above Haines, Alaska, which has some of the most extreme and awe-inspiring terrain in the world. Rand grew up in Rhode Island and lives in Port Angeles. She spends her winters traveling the world in search of extreme terrian as one of the top athltes on the prestigious Vans global team.

Adding music to the event is local singer and songwriter, 17-year-old Flora Sullivan, playing her original songs.

There will be a raffle for free snowboards and other items. This is an all-ages, family-friendly event and in case of rain or bad weather, there will be an alternate venue. People can check on Strait Slice’s Facebook or Instagram @StraitSlice.
