AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Youth soccer signups underway

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club registration closes on Aug. 15 for the fall season.

Registration for U8 through U15 is online on the club website at paysc.com/RecSeason.

The season starts Sept. 11.

Referees are also needed. Referees must be registered with the United States Soccer Federation and registration is done through the Washington State Referee Committee.

Registration for new referees is a two-step process. The first step is to take the online course on the state website WAReferees.org. People need to click on “I want to be a referee” and follow the directions. Once people have completed the online course and passed the test, they sign up for the field clinic at Agnew Field from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 28.

Successful participants will be reimbursed for the clinic cost and the cost of the starter kit. All PAYSC matches are held on Saturdays. USSF registration allows you to referee around the state and to register with the Washington Officials Association that governs high school officials.

People with questions regarding the referee program can contact Paul Götz, PAYSC Referee Coordinator and USSF Regional Emeritus Referee, at 206-719-2935.
