PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Youth Football League season kicks off today with practices in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks, Neah Bay and Chimacum.
Here’s a breakdown on the first day of practice details for area youth football teams.
• Port Angeles Future Riders: Mandatory parent meeting at first practice at 5 p.m. at the Port Angeles High School track and field stairs. Policies and expectations will be outlined and head coaches introduced.
• Sequim Wolf Pack: Practice will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the high school practice field along Fir Street.
A mandatory parent meeting to go over expectations and appropriate conduct is expected to take 15 to 20 minutes. Coaches and coach coordinators also will be introduced.
• West End Youth League (Forks): Tackle football practices will be held at the Tillicum Park baseball fields from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A parents’ meeting will be held.
• Neah Bay Warriors: 5:30 p.m. at Neah Bay High School football field. All parents/guardians are asked to attend the practice to discuss gear, schedules and other season questions.
• East Jefferson Rivals: All players and parents/guardians need to be at the practice field by the bus barn at Chimacum School, 91 West Valley Road, at 5 p.m.
League play begins Sept. 9 with the regular season running through Oct. 7 for A and B squads, Oct. 14 for C squads.
Playoff rounds will be held Oct. 14 at Neah Bay, Oct. 21 at Forks and championship games also will be held in Forks on Oct. 28.
JeffCo ladies golf
PORT TOWNSEND — Jane Peoples and Dee Sweeney made birdies after spectacular near misses during the Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club’s weekly play last Thursday, but it wasn’t enough for the top spot.
Cindy Westwood of Discovery Bay took top honors both in low putts (29) and the lowest net score in a game of Better Nine (31). Cindy Breed and Sherilyn Uuland tied for second.
Across town at Port Townsend Golf Club, the ladies played Sandbagger or Low Net.
Vicki Young took first place with a net 31, four strokes under par.
In a close second-place tie with 33 were Barb Aldrich and Katherine Buchanan.
Later this month, both ladies’ clubs will honor their members who have died with a Memorial Scramble hosted at the Port Townsend club followed by a luncheon at the course restaurant.
