Operation Uplift golf tourney set June 9 at Cedars

SEQUIM — Registration is underway and sponsorships are available ahead of The Operation Uplift Tournament at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course on June 9.

The four-person scramble format event raises funds to benefit Operation Uplift, a Port Angeles-based support group for cancer survivors. No handicap is required.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. ahead of the 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Entry fees are $100 and includes green fees, cart, KP contest, range balls, prizes and the awards dinner after the tournament.

Pinch, Hit & Run

PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run contest hosted by the Port Angeles Lefties on June 24.

Group testing will begin at 10 a.m. at Civic Field.

Boys and girls ages 7-14 as of November 2024 are eligible to participate in a series of baseball and softball drills with the goal of earning the most points in their age group and advancing to compete in the Seattle Mariners team championship.

Winners at the Mariners stage advance to the national finals at the World Series.

BMX beginners

PORT ANGELES — A beginners-only spring league season set to start Monday and continue for five Monday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. through July 1.

League tuition is $149 per kid and includes five weeks of instruction and racing, a league jersey, personalized number plate, loaner bike and helmet (when available) plus a season-end award and pizza party.

Pool, YMCA closed

PORT TOWNSEND — The YMCA of Jefferson County and Mountain View Pool is closed through at least Saturday due to a maintenance issue that has caused a lack of running water at the facility.

Lifeguard classes

SEQUIM — Two lifeguard certification courses will be hosted by the YMCA of Sequim this summer.

The courses includes two online systems, classroom training and pool sessions.

Pre-class swim workouts are available for anyone who needs to improve their swim skills.

Completion of the class will provide a Lifeguard Certification plus CPR, First Aid, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Registration is open through June 8 for the first session, set June 21-23 and 29-30.

Registration is open through July 20 for the second session, set Aug. 3-4, 10-11 and 17.

Students must be age 16 by the final day of class, complete the swim test by the registration date and the online learning system by the first day of training.
