Roughriders cheerleaders shine at camp

TACOMA — The 13-member Port Angeles High School Cheer squad prepped for the fall sports season with some award-winning efforts at the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp held in July at the University of Puget Sound.

Roughriders cheerleaders worked on skills and new routines to debut at football games this season.

The squad brought home first place for Cheer in the Small Varsity Division while also competing in several other catagories such as sideline, band chant and camp dance. Port Angeles also earned a spirit stick, awarded to teams displaying the highest level of team spirit, or those who performed well and whose hard work was evident.

Senior cheerleaders Jordyn Erdmann and Julia McDonald also tried out and were selected for the UCA All-American team that performs in parades in Hawaii, Disneyland and London.
