Turkey Trot 5K benefits Jumping Mouse nonprofit

PORT TOWNSEND — The annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1-mile Kids Dash to benefit Jumping Mouse Children’s Center will be held Saturday on the Larry Scott Memorial Trail at the Boat Haven.

Jumping Mouse was founded in 1999 and provides expressive mental health therapy for ages 3-12.

Registration is $40 for the 5-kilometer run/walk; $15 for kids 12 and younger.

Packet pickup will be held at the Broken Spoke, 630 Water St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and again starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Larry Scott Trail trailhead.

The 1-mile kids run begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m.

Participants should bring their own water bottles. Filling stations will be provided at the start/finish lines. All participants will receive a trucker hat.

WIAA honors Sprague

JOYCE — Crescent senior running back/linebacker Dom Sprague racked up the rushing yards in his final football game as a Logger and has received recognition as a WIAA Athlete of the Week.

Sprague rushed 31 times for 312 yards on the ground, scoring on runs of 8, 16 and 25 yards. He also tallied 22 tackles defensively (10 solo), a sack, recovered a fumble and deflected a pass.

“His leadership will be missed on the team as he is a senior and will be hard to replace,” Sprague’s nomination said.

He will receive a $25 gift certificate, a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director and a certificate of achievement.

Sprague also was recognized as the Swain’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 12 by the Peninsula Daily News.

Food bank cycle benefit

SEQUIM — Cyclists will gear up Saturday for Cranksgiving to gather food and funds for the Sequim Food Bank.

Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome to bike, walk, hope drive or skate to the 14th year of the Sequim event with check in at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the food bank, 144 W. Alder St.

The ride begins at 9 a.m. and ends about 10 a.m. Riders are encouraged to bring wheels, a helmet, something to carry food and $25 to purchase food. Cash donations also will be accepted at the food bank.

Individuals and teams will gather food from local markets in an event similar to a scavenger hunt on wheels.

Riders will go to QFC to Walmart and then back to the food bank.

Traditional “Trophy Cans” will be awarded in various categories — Most Food Gathered, Oldest Rider, etc., with an after party following the event with a raffle for free swag from local merchants and national bicycle brands. All participants receive a Cranksgiving “Spoke card” containing an entry number for the raffle and a souvenir backpack.

PORT ANGELES — Momentum One Volleyball Academy will host girls club tryouts Sunday at Stevens Middle School.

Girls 16U tryouts will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 18U tryouts from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
