There’s no denying that without Noa Montoya’s 29 points, Port Townsend would not have been in the game against 2A Tyee at the Crush in the slush Tournament in Port Townsend.
But, sometimes it’s the little things that win games. Especially a lot of little things in the last minute of a game. And that’s why we have picked Port Townsend’s Aiden Petta as our Athlete of the Week.
With the Redhawks down by two points, the Redhawks’ Aiden Petta made a basket to tie the game at 56-56 with 37 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Petta stole the ball from Tyee and was fouled with 11 seconds left as he started a fast break. He made one out of two free throws to give Port Townsend a 57-56 lead.
If that wasn’t enough, Petta blocked a Tyee desperation shot with less than 5 seconds left to close out the game.
That’s a basket, a steal, a drawn foul, a free throw and a block — all in the final 30 seconds. And that’s the difference between a win and a loss for Port Townsend.
