ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Alan Morales, East Jefferson soccer

The East Jefferson boys soccer team is off to a great start this season with a 5-0 shutout over Nisqually League rival Annie Wright, followed by a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Port Angeles on Saturday.

After two games, the Rivals have already won half as many games as they did all last season.

A big part of both wins was Alan Morales, just a freshman. Morales scored a hat trick in the victory over Annie Wright. Against Port Angeles, he had an assist on a corner kick, then scored two goals late in the second half as the Rivals overcame a 2-1 deficit in the final minutes of the match.

Morales has scored five of the Rivals’ eight goals so far this season as a central attacking midfielder. The Rivals next have a home game Saturday afternoon against another tough 2A opponent, Olympic, at Port Townsend Memorial Stadium.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
