The Port Angeles volleyball team had a remarkable run at the West Central District 2/3 tournament last week.
The Roughriders got a rough seed and were forced to win three straight games, two of them against higher seeds, to try and qualify for state. And they nearly pulled it off, winning two out of three matches.
And the team’s libero (a defensive specialist), Cindy Liang, was a big part of the team’s strong showing at district. In the Riders’ first game against Clover Park, a five-set marathon that Port Angeles won, she tallied 27 digs and 35 serve receptions.
In Port Angeles’ second match against Foster, a four-set victory, Liang had a remarkable 40 digs and another 36 serve receptions with just one error.
finally, the Riders went to four sets against No. 3-seed Sammamish, but lost a close one to come up just short of state. Liang added another 27 digs and 40 serve receptions with just three errors. That’s 94 digs and 111 serve receptions that she tallied at district playoffs.
