ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Colton Romero, Port Angeles baseball

Port Angeles’ Colton Romero has gotten off to a great start in his senior season leading the Roughriders baseball team.

In the Riders’ second game of the year Thursday against Bremerton, Romero pitched four no-hit innings, combining for a no-hitter with reliever Brayden Martin and picking up the victory. He struck out 10 in the Riders’ 11-0 victory.

Romero also has had at least one hit, run scored, RBI and walk in all three of Port Angeles’ victories so far this season. He had a double and two runs scored in the Riders’ 7-1 win over 3A Central Kitsap on Friday.

His batting average in the first week of play is .429 (3-for-7) and his on-base percentage is an even more impressive .692 with six walks in three games, so he is doing his damage at both the plate and on the mound for the Riders.
