Neah Bay freshman Courtney Swan had a fantastic Tri-District 1B tournament, playing a big role in the Red Devils winning the Tri-District championship.

Swan is just one of several outstanding freshmen girls on the Neah Bay, Clallam Bay and Port Angeles varsity basketball teams that have all qualified for regionals.

In the opening game of the tournament against Lummi, Swan had a solid effort with 11 points, nine rebounds and six steals. But, she was just getting started.

Against Mount Vernon Christian in the semifinals, she scored 31 points with 14 rebounds. Then in the championship game Saturday, she hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points to help Neah Bay beat Mount Rainier Lutheran.

That’s an average of 22.3 points a game over the tournament.

Earlier this season, Swan also had a 30-point, 20-rebound game against league rival Clallam Bay.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
