ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, Ethan Staples, Sequim baseball

Sequim’s Ethan Staples has been a big part of the baseball team’s three-game winning streak.

In a 15-4 victory over Mount Tahoma on Friday, Staples was 3-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. He even pitched a no-hit inning for the Wolves.

His big performance comes on the heels of a game he pitched against Kingston on March 26. He went five innings, allowed just two hits and no earned runs while striking out seven in a 9-5 victory. He also had a base hit in that game.

Staples and his Sequim teammates face Olympic Peninsula rival Port Angeles at Civic Field at 6:30 p.m. today. It’s part of a home-and-home series as the Roughriders visit Sequim at 4:15 p.m. Friday.
