ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Eve Burke, Port Angeles girls basketball

Eve Burke has been an absolute scoring machine for the Port Angeles girls basketball team this season.

Burke is averaging 21.5 points a game and has been a model of consistency, scoring 20 or more points in five of the Roughriders’ six games this year. Even in her one game below 20, she scored a respectable 14 and shot 6-of-7 from the field in a Riders 52-point victory over Bremerton.

Burke’s high games — 24 points — came on Dec. 16 against Bainbridge and Dec. 2 against Lake Stevens.

Though she is listed at 5-foot-7, she does much of her damage inside the key with a variety of clever moves beneath the basket against taller opponents.

Burke has been a huge part of the Riders’ 4-2 record so far this season, and 4-0 record in the Olympic 2A League.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swains General Store of Port Angeles.
