ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Fiona Fraser, East Jefferson cross country

Fiona Fraser has quietly put together a spectacular senior season for the East Jefferson girls cross country team.

Fraser gets overlooked a little as her teammate Aaliyah Cassidy Yearian is a league and district champion and has the top 1A girls’ time in the state at 18 minutes, 21 seconds.

But Fraser has become a potent one-two punch with Yearian as the Rivals are looking for a high team placement at the state cross-country meet this weekend in Pasco.

Fraser finished second at district with a time of 18:38, finishing nearly a full minute ahead of the third-place runner. The East Jefferson girls had three runners in the top eight and seven runners in the top 20 and will compete as a full team at state.

Fraser’s 18:38 time was a personal best by five seconds. While Yearian has the top time in the state, Fraser’s time is in the top three. She is looking to improve dramatically on her 25th-place finish at state from last year.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
