ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Gabriel Terrones, Forks goalkeeper

Gabriel Terrones

Gabriel Terrones

Gabriel Terrones is a big part of the resurgence of a very young Forks soccer squad this year.

Terrones, goalkeeper for the Spartans, with help from his defense has yet to give up a goal in four matches. In those four matches, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 24-0. And two of those opponents — Bremerton and Lakewood — are bigger 2A schools.

Forks beat Bremerton by a score of 4-0. How impressive is that? Port Angeles, a 2A school with a solid 5-1 won-loss record, beat Bremerton 3-2.

Terrones is a sophomore, which makes him a graybeard on this remarkably young, talented team. The Spartans have a total of seven freshmen, three sophomores and just four seniors on the squad. Keep an eye on the Spartans soccer team this season.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
