With a team full of freshmen, senior point guard Gina McCaulley has been a steadying force all year for the Neah Bay girls, who are one of the top seeds at the state 1B tournament beginning Thursday.

McCaulley is just one of two seniors on the 22-2 team, ranked No. 3 in RPI in the state, as seven freshmen on the team look to her for leadership.

McCaulley has provided that by leading the Red Devils in assists with 4.9 per game and with steals at 4.3 per game. In the Tri-District championship game against Mount Rainier Lutheran, McCaulley scored 10 and in the Red Devils’ Regionals game against Selkirk, she scored nine, including two critical steals and buckets to close out the third quarter.

Neah Bay begins play in the state 1B tournament Thursday against either Mount Vernon Christian or Columbia Adventist.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
