ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kylin Weitz, Lincoln Park BMX

Franklin Elementary School student and Lincoln Park BMX rider Kylin Weitz placed fourth at the BMX USA Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Okla., this weekend.

Weitz won her trophy in the 9-10 girls cruiser glass, while also earning the national age group No. 10 plate in 9-10 girls cruiser.

Weitz competed against 24 other elite riders from across the country to win her trophy. She needed to race four national weekends over the summer in the Pacific Northwest to score high enough to secure her No. 10 national plate as well as her finish in the Grand Nationals.

At the end of the summer season, Weitz also was a state BMX champion in the 10-year-old female expert class and second in the state in the 9-10 year-old female cruiser class.
