ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Landen Olson, Forks football

Landen Olson is off to a great start for the Forks football team this season.

Olson, who plays defensive back and wide receiver, had never had an interception before Friday night’s game against Olympic Peninsula rival Port Angeles.

In a defensive struggle in which neither team got into the red zone in the second half, Olson single-handedly stopped three Port Angeles drives with interceptions. The final interception came at the 40-yard-line with 1:30 left in the game and Port Angeles trying to drive for a game-tying touchdown, preserving a hard-fought 13-7 victory for the Spartans to even their record at 1-1. Olson’s teammate Cashtien Barajas also had an interception earlier in the game to help set up a Forks touchdown.

Olson and his fellow Spartans are traveling all the way to Kittitas this weekend for a rare Saturday afternoon game.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
