ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Luke Angevine, Port Angeles baseball

Port Angeles’ Luke Angevine is off to a blistering start for the Roughriders baseball team.

Angevine, a shortstop for the Riders, is batting a eye-popping .800 after five games. How good is that? He could go 0-for-15 and he would still be batting .400.

Angevine went 3-for-3 against Lake Washington, 4-for-4 against Olympic and 3-for-4 against Sequim. He also has seven RBIs and seven runs scored in five games. He’s hit three doubles and belted his first-ever home run against Port Townsend on March 27. That’s 19 total bases in 15 at-bats, for a slugging percentage of 1.267.

His deeds have played a big role in helping the Riders get off to a 3-2 start and 2-1 start in Olympic League 2A action.

Angevine was also a star basketball player for the Roughriders.
