ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Naomii Sprague, Crescent track and field

Crescent’s Naomii Sprague has had a spectacular start to her track and field season.

Sprague, just a freshman for the Loggers, erupted on the scene this spring by racking up 13 first-place finishes in her first four track meets. She has won the 200-meter run and long jump in all four meets she has competed in. She’s also won four events — the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump — in two meets.

Sprague is not only coming out on top against 1B opponents, but track athletes from 2B and 2A schools. At a 2B meet in Forks in early March, she won two events. At a 2A meet with Olympic and Port Angeles, she won the 200 meters, long jump and triple jump.

It’s still early in the season, but so far, Sprague’s top long jump of 15 feet, 5½ inches is second in the state among 1B girls. Her best 200 time of 28.23 seconds is fourth. Her top triple jump of 31-6 is fifth and her best 100-meter time of 13.61 is ninth.

Sprague is part of a deep Crescent track team that features some pretty good throwers in Katelyn and Alexis Dunavant for the girls and Titus White and Conner Ferro-May for the boys.
