ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Riley Cowan, Sequim quarterback

Sequim quarterback/punter/kicker Riley Cowan had a week to remember.

First of all, Cowan broke the all-time Sequim passing touchdown record with a 26-yard strike to Kyler Rollness — he had earlier this season already broken the Sequim all-time passing yardage mark.

Then, on top of that, he made three field goals and an extra point as a kicker. And forced the North Kitsap Vikings to start inside their 10-yard line twice on kickoffs.

And, on top of that, as a punter, he pinned the Vikings inside their 5-yard line three times.

Best of all, Cowan’s fantastic all-around game was a huge part of the Wolves beating the formerly undefeated No. 9-ranked Vikings 16-7. This comes a week after Cowan led the Wolves back from a 16-0 deficit against Forks to win that game.

So, it’s been a magical season already for the Sequim senior and it’s just getting started.
