ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Sequim swimmer Sonja Govertsen

Sequim’s Sonja Govertsen, just a sophomore, had a fantastic state 2A swim meet on Nov. 11.

First, Govertsen finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.24 seconds. Then, she finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.78. Those two performances alone garnered 28 points for Sequim.

To add an exclamation point, she helped the Sequim 200-yard medley relay team finish 11th in the state (along with teammates Sydnee Linnane, Sydney Swanson and Jasmine Itti) with a time of 1:59.54, picking up another 12 points. Thus, Govertsen played a part in all of Sequim’s 40 points at the state meet, helping the Wolves finish 18 at state out of 34 schools.
