The Forks girls wrestling duo of Larayne Blair and Kansas Jackson are having a good start to their season, as is the entire girls wrestling team.

Blair, wrestling at 100-105 pounds, started off her season by going 2-0 in her weight class, winning Forks’ home tournament at the beginning of December. She followed that up with three pins and a 3-1 record at the prestigious Tony Saldivar Ironman invite, coming in a solid third place in her division.

Then, she took first at the Lady Mountaineer Invitational held in Granger a week ago. Two firsts and a third so far for Blair in three tournaments.

Jackson, wrestling at 235 pounds, also got her first invitational victory of the season, winning her division at the Lady Mountaineer Invite as the Forks girls finished second as a team. The Spartans girls also finished second at the Saldivar meet.

The recent icy and snowy weather canceled most wrestling meets last week. The Forks girls return to action at the Rogers Holiday Invitational on Friday.

Athletes of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
