ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Peyton Rudd, Port Angeles softball, and Gunner Rogers, Forks baseball

Forks’ Gunner Rogers and Port Angeles’ Peyton Rudd have something in common.

On Friday, Rudd, second baseman for the Port Angeles softball team, belted a pair of home runs in the Roughriders’ 4-1 win over Lynden. She is a big part of a powerful Riders’ offense that loves to hit home runs. Her homers were her sixth and seventh home runs in just 11 games so far this season. It was also her second game this season in which she hit two home runs.

Rogers also hit a pair of home runs in a 6-1 win Saturday for the undefeated Forks baseball team. In fact, Rogers went 4-for-4 in the victory, driving in four runs and scoring three.

It was the second game this year that Rogers had four hits and his fifth multi-hit game for the Spartans. He is batting. 667 for the season.

Athletes of the Week are sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
