PORT ANGELES — Logan Shaw’s RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Gavin Velarde and lifted the Olympic Crosscutters to a walkoff 5-4 victory over Lower Columbia.
The host Cutters trailed by three runs entering the last half of the seventh inning in Friday’s American Legion AA District 2 Tournament opener at Civic Field.
After a leadoff ground out by Ben Bruner, Joel Wood and Justin Porter both walked.
Velarde followed by lacing a hard-hit double to left field that scored Wood and moved Porter to third base.
Another walk, this time to Lane Dotson, loaded the bases for the Cutters.
Olympic tied the game at 4-all when Porter scored on a passed ball to the next batter, Shaw.
Shaw fouled two more pitches off before hitting the game-winning single.
Starter Cole Dotson left the game after allowing four runs in four innings.
Jake Sparks and James Thayer combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief for the Cutters, striking out two apiece.
In other day one games, Centralia beat River Ridge 5-0, Montesano edged Capital 2-1 and Chehalis topped North Kitsap 4-1.
The tournament continues today at Civic Field, with the opening game set for 10 a.m.
