BASEBALL: Port Angeles hosting Babe Ruth state tournament starting Friday

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball and Port Angeles Parks and Recreation are hosting the Northern Washington Senior Babe Ruth State Tournament at Civic Field beginning Friday.

The tournament will feature five teams from around the state competing in a round-robin format. The top team will earn a berth to the Babe Ruth World Series to be held in Ephrata next month, and the runner-up will advance to the regional tournament in Vancouver, Wash., later this month for one more shot at reaching the World Series.

Wilder Senior (20-3), coming off its Firecracker Classic championship last weekend, and Wilder Junior will both participate in the state tournament, with the Wilder Senior serving as the tournament host.

The action starts Friday morning with Wilder Junior taking on the Columbia Basin Desert Dogs at 11 a.m., then Wilder Senior playing Spokane Crew at 2 p.m. Friday’s 5 p.m. game matches Wilder Junior and Lakeside Recovery.

Saturday has Spokane Crew versus Columbia Basin at 11 a.m., Wilder Senior facing Lakeside Recovery at 2 p.m., and Wilder Junior and Spokane Crew at 5 p.m.

Sunday’s games are Columbia Basin against Lakeside Recovery at 9 a.m., Wilder Senior and Wilder Junior at 11:30 a.m., Lakeside Recovery versus Spokane Crew at 2:30 p.m., and Wilder Senior finishes the tournament with a game against Columbia Basin at 5:30 p.m.

All games are at Civic Field. There is no admission fee for spectators.
