DES MOINES — The Sequim baseball team remained alive in the postseason, getting a huge game from Zeke Schmadeke in beating Tyee 8-1 in the Wolves’ bidistrict tournament opener.
Forks also remained alive in the postseason with an 8-0 win over Kalama.
The Wolves (11-11) played at Fife (14-8), which was beaten by Port Angeles 5-3 on Wednesday after press deadline in another loser-out game. If Sequim wins that game, they will have another bidistrict tournament game against Kingston or Olympic at 3 p.m. Saturday at Foss High School, with a chance to qualify for the state 2A tournament. Schmadeke belted three doubles and drove in three runs. He also pitched a five-inning one-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing two walks. Bryant Laboy pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out four.
Brayden White hit a triple and scored a run, while Devyn Dearings was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter Tennell had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

NAPAVINE — The Forks baseball team got a shutout from Gunner Rogers and Aidan Salazar in an 8-0 win over Kalama, remaining alive in the District 4 2B tournament.
Forks (14-5) will play Ilwaco at 4 p.m. today at Adna High School in another loser-out game. If the Spartans win that game, they will qualify for the state 2B tournament as one of the top four teams in District 4.
Bubba Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while Landen Olson had a hit and two RBIs. Salazar was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Rogers pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. Salazar pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

Girls softball Port Angeles 8, Kingston 5
KINGSTON — The Port Angeles girls softball team scored five runs late, then slammed the door on Kingston to hold on for an 8-5 victory to remain tied for first place in the Olympic League.
This was not an easy win as Kingston was up 5-3 entering the sixth inning.
Kennedy Rognlien finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Natalie Robinson was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Abby Kimball was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Heidi Leitz pitched the entire game, getting six straight outs in the sixth and seventh innings as the Riders rallied on offense with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. She went seven innings, allowed five hits and five earned runs and struck out 10 while walking one.
Port Angeles (11-1, 15-2), ranked No. 2 in the state in ratings percentage index, has a tough road game at a good Olympic (9-3, 14-3, No. 9 RPI) team at 4:15 p.m. today.

SEQUIM — The Sequim softball team was only able to manage four hits in a 15-5 loss to Olympic, one of the top 10 teams in the state.
Taylee Rome, Hannah Giddings, Ava Ritter and Rylin Whitehead all had hits for the Wolves with Giddings adding an RBI.
Sequim (1-12, 2-15) hosts Port Angeles (11-1 15-2) to close out its season at 4:15 p.m. Friday.
