SILVERDALE — Noah McGoff went off for 30 points and hauled down nine rebounds as the Port Angeles boys basketball team roughed up Klahowya 66-18 in the Roughriders’ season opener.

“After two weeks of competing against each other in practice every day it was nice to play another team,” Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin said.

Ulin said the game showcased some areas to improve on and clean up moving forward.

“I was very happy with our effort and togetherness, though,” he said.

“Ten guys played and contributed. We attacked the hoop all night long. We turned them over 32 times which led to a lot of high-percentage shots, and we dominated the glass.”

Sophomore post Liam Clark was a force on the boards and in the paint, collecting 18 rebounds and swatting seven shots. He also scored three points.

Ulin said senior point guard Grayson Peet had “a great overall game” with 14 points, nine steals and seven assists.

Luke Angevine contributed 11 points and was “extremely active all night long,” according to Ulin.

The Riders (1-0) visit North Mason (1-0) on Wednesday.

“We have one week before our league opener and have a couple guys that need to get healthy, several things we need to clean up because we have two very important early-season games next week,” Ulin said.

FORKS — The Spartans ran out to a big lead and held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Bobcats to come away with a nonleague victory over a Class 2A opponent.

“Huge win for our kids,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.

The second half was a thriller. I’m glad we got into one like that.

“I told the kids after the game we wouldn’t have won a game like that a few years ago. It shows improvement and that all the hard work we put in over the summer is paying off.”

The Spartans held a 16-point lead in the final frame, but Aberdeen whittled that advantage down.

“They came back and made it a one-possession game in the final minute,” Gooding said.

“They hit five 3s in the fourth quarter to make it interesting, for sure.

Parker Browning had 25 points to lead Forks. His runner in the lane with less than a minute to play sealed the win for the Spartans.

Marky Adams added 14 points for the Spartans.

“That was a great team win,” Gooding said. “Our guys are really buying in to their roles.”

Forks (2-0) visit Chimacum (0-1) tonight.
