KINGSTON — The Sequim boys basketball team got off to a fast start against Kingston, building up a lead of 32-19 at the half, then held on in the fourth quarter to beat the Buccaneers 58-50.
Friday’s victory was the second Olympic League win for the Wolves and keeps them in the middle of the standings entering the second half of the season.
The Wolves held a comfortable 47-36 lead after the third quarter when Kingston closed the gap with a 7-0 run to begin the fourth to cut the lead down to 47-43 with lots of time remaining. Keenan Green responded with a 3-pointer and Charlie Grider hit a pair of baskets 27 seconds apart to open the lead back up to 56-48 with 2:45 left in the game. The Wolves’ defense cracked down to only allow the Bucs another two points the rest of the way.
“Kingston played tough. Our boys fought hard to get the league win,” said coach Craig Brooks.
The Wolves had balanced offense. Solomon Sheppard led the Wolves with 13 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, while Green and Grider each scored 11 and Mason Rapelje scored nine.
Sequim (2-3, 6-4) next hosts Olympic (0-5, 3-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday looking to get to .500 in league.

North Kitsap 69, Port Angeles 49
POULSBO — Port Angeles’ hot start on North Kitsap’s home court fizzled out after a quarter and the Roughriders’ attempt at ending the Vikings’ 57-game home winning streak fell short in a 69-49 loss Friday.
The Roughriders ran out to a 21-10 advantage on the RPI-rated No. 5 Vikings (5-1) after a solid first-quarter effort and were hanging on to a 30-23 advantage with 3:42 left in the first half after back-to-back 3s by Dallas Dunning.
But North Kitsap, specifically 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard Harry Davies, sparked the Vikings with a runout and slam dunk and North Kitsap was off to the races, outscoring Port Angeles 46-19 the rest of the way.
Davies finished with 20 points to lead all scorers.
Parker Nickerson and Dunning led the Riders with 16 points apiece.
Port Angeles (3-3, 7-4) visits Kingston (1-4, 3-8) on Tuesday.

Crescent 45, Clallam Bay 42
CLALLAM BAY — In a battle between two small schools with excellent won-loss records, the Crescent boys basketball team outlasted Clallam Bay 45-42 on Friday.
The power was out in much of Clallam Bay during the game but the Olympic Peninsula rivals were able to play because the school had a generator to give the gym lighting, but no scoreboard.
Clallam Bay came in to the game 6-0 and Crescent 11-1.
”Clallam Bay was very ready for us. We had to grind out a really tough win against a really physical, hard-working Bruins squad,” Ferrier said. “Credit to my guys though, too, the game got physical and we didn’t back down, we persevered and kept pounding the glass.”
Ferrier said Dom Sprague and Mikah Love both had big games with 11 points each.
“We hit a couple of big shots in the third. Dom hit a big three that gave us a little bit of a cushion, and Mikah kept hitting big shots whenever Clallam Bay would get even. Both those dudes were absolute assassins tonight,” Ferrier said.
Lukas Love had eight points and Henry Bourm seven for Crescent. Leading the way for Clallam Bay was Dylan Simmons with 15 and Coletyn Hull with 11.
Crescent, now 12-1 overall, plays the Port Angeles C team Wednesday. Clallam Bay (7-1) beat Lake Quinault 73-24 on Saturday and plays the Port Angeles C team at 7 p.m. today.
In another game this weekend, the Forks boys lost on the road to Chief Leschi 70-49. Forks (4-2, 7-5) plays at North Beach on Tuesday.
