BOYS SWIMMING: Port Angeles’ Butler qualifies for two state events in season-opening meet

POULSBO — The Port Angeles swim team got two first places from Cameron Butler and a first from its 400 freestyle relay squad, but was just edged out by North Kitsap in a season-opening Olympic League meet 88-82.

Butler qualified for state in his two victories. He won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 8.03 seconds and won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:09.57.

The Riders’ 400 freestyle relay team of Josh Gavin, Alex Hertzog, Taylor Martin and Butler won in 3:42.96

Several other individuals and relay teams qualified for the district meet.

District qualifiers:

• 200 medley relay (Hertzog, Butler, Gavin, Martin), second, 1:50.94.

• 200 freestyle, Josh Gavin, second, 2:03.61; Adam Boyd, third, 2:11.74.

• 200 individual medley, Henry Shaw, third, 2:29.90.

• 50 freestyle – Martin, second, 24.72.

• 100 freestyle — Hertzog, second, 1:01.26.

• 500 freestyle — Gavin, second, 5:34.92.

• 200 freestyle relay (Josh Krzysiak, Adam Weller, Boyd, Shaw), second, 1:49.93

• 100 backstroke — Martin, second, 1:01.64; Hertzog, third, 1:02.84.

The Riders have a meet at 3:30 p.m. today at home against Klahowya.
