RENTON — The Port Angeles boys swim and dive team finished sixth overall at the 16-team District 2/3 swimming and diving championships at Hazen High School.
Four Roughriders will compete as individuals and two four-man relay teams will compete at the state championships Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Wei-Yan Fu earned Port Angeles’ highest-individual finish, placing second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.09 seconds.
Junior Tristin Butler will swim in two events at state. He finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:07.34 in the finals) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:06.25) at the district meet.
Freshman Cameron Butler was fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.76.
Port Angeles’ 400 freestyle relay team of Karsten Hertzog, Cameron Butler, Tristin Butler and Fu finished second by recording a time of 3:29.44.
The 200 medley relay team of Kaleb Sheldon, Cameron Butler, Tristin Butler and Fu was fifth with a time of 1:49.96.
Port Angeles’ Scott Methner had already qualified for state in the 1-meter dive before districts. He finished fourth at the meet with a score of 280.05 points.
Sequim’s lone district competitor, Mathew Craig, was fifth in the dive with a score of 276 points.
Both divers competed at state last season.
