North Kitsap 106, Sequim 50

SEQUIM — Sequim swimmer Jax Thornton qualified for Districts in the 100 freestyle in a dual meet against North Kitsap, improving his best time by over a second.

About two-thirds of the team showed initial symptoms of a cold today, so given the health state of the team, I think they swam very well. We would have liked to have seen more best times, but hopefully a weekend of rest will result in faster swims on Tuesday at the Divisional Invitational in Port Angeles),” said coach Linda Moats.

North Kitsap had a much deeper team than Sequim, Moats said.

Other highlights include:

Sam Frymer dropped his best time in the 200 freestyle by 12 seconds and nine seconds off his best time in the 100 backstroke.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Alex Berikoff, Christian Goodrich, Liam Payne and Thaxton dropped six seconds off their best time and are now just 12.52 seconds off the Districts qualifying time.

“I feel confident they can make a [qualifying] time at the League meet,” said Moats.

Sequim also will compete the the Divisional Invitational Tuesday at the William Shore Memorial Pool in Port Angeles.
