Facility to close course and range three days in late September

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness will temporarily close its golf course and driving range later this month to replace its irrigation system.

Precision Golf Irrigation (PGI) crews will break ground Sept. 25 at 1965 Woodcock Road on a “top-of-the-line irrigation system,” according to Cedars staff, resulting in the golf course and driving range to close. It will reopen at 11 a.m. Sept. 28.

“This new system will bring the latest and greatest technology to our golf course,” said Cedars General Manager Chad Wagner.

He said the project has been on golf staff’s radar for many years, and they paused conversations during the COVID-19 pandemic and started working with Brent Harvey Consulting about 18 months ago for the design. They signed a contract with PGI earlier this spring.

The project will replace about 160,000 feet, or about 30 miles, of piping, Wagner said.

“Based off our current usage, we will save about 20 percent (of water),” he said. “The great part about this system is each sprinkler head is individually controllable. What that means to our guests is our course conditions will be much more consistent regardless of where you hit it on our property.”

Wagner said staff feel “it is important to reinvest in our property to provide the highest-quality product to each one of our guests.”

“Although we will have some interruptions for golfers during this process, we will try and make it as seamless as possible to our loyal customers,” he said.

There will be some disruptions to play, he said, but staff are unsure what those will be as of Sept. 1.

“Fortunately, we have our chipping green we can use as an alternative par 3 when we have to close a hole or two,” Wagner said.

Staff will update guests on any delays, modifications or closures to the course as that information is available, Cedars staff report. For more information, call 360-683-6344.
