COLLEGE BASKETBALL: PC hoops teams clinch berths in postseason

BREMERTON — The Peninsula College men and women’s basketball teams both clinched postseason berths this weekend, winning games on the road against Olympic.

Both teams are also in first place in the North Region. The men won 73-64 to improve their North record to 10-1 (23-2 overall), while the women won their ninth in a row, 76-54 over the Rangers.

In the men’s game, Max D’Amato had one of his best games of the year with 22 points, nailing five 3-pointers. Roosevelt Williams Jr. scored 14 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists, while Malik Jackson had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Ese Onakpoma added 12 points and four assists.

The women had similar balance with four players in double figures. Chasity Selden had 19 points and five rebounds, while Millie Long had 15 points and six rebounds. Talia Marini had 11 points and Jenilee Donovan had 10, shooting 3-for-5 on her 3-pointers. Ituau Tuisaula had eight points and seven rebounds.

The men have a two-game lead over Edmonds for the North Region title with three games to go. The women, after an 0-2 start, are now in a two-way tie for first with Shoreline with a 9-2 North record (17-4 overall).

The women host Whatcom (3-8, 7-18) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, while the men have a home game against the Orcas (1-10, 5-19) at 7 p.m. If the men win, they earn at least a share of the North title.
