PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team made some big shots and free throws down the stretch to hold off Everett in a close, hard-fought 73-68 victory Saturday.
The Peninsula women also dominated Everett, crushing the Trojans 76-39.
In the men’s game, there were 21 lead changes and nine ties. Everett held an eight-point lead early in the second half but the Pirates went on an 11-2 run to get right back in the game with 13 minutes left. From that point on, neither team had more than a three-point lead until the final minute of the game.
The big shot for the Pirates came from Akeem Sulaiman, who hit a jumper with 1:34 left to give Peninsula a 70-67 lead. Antonio Odum also made two free throws with 34 seconds left to ice the game as the Pirates’ defense forced Everett to miss its last seven shots over the final 2:39 of the game.
Jaiden Blackmon led the team with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Sulaiman had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Isaiah Lopez had 13 points.
Peninsula (3-3, 9-10), which has won three out of its past four games, next plays at Shoreline (3-3, 7-10) on Wednesday.

Women’s Game Peninsula 76, Everett 39
PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College women’s basketball team completely dominated the boards in crushing Everett by 37 points as the Pirates remained perfect in North Region play.
The Pirates didn’t shoot particularly well — 31 for 84 (36.9 percent) — but they had 69 rebounds to Everett’s 34. Even better, they had 34 offensive rebounds to the Trojans’ five. As a result, Peninsula outshot Everett 84-60, while also forcing the Trojans to shoot 25 percent from the field (15-for-60).
Seven Pirates had at least five rebounds and six players had at least three assists.
Makena Patrick had one of her best games of the year off the bench with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Alexa Mackey had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Ciera Tugade Agasiva had 14 points and six rebounds. Sequim’s Jelissa Julmist had eight points and nine rebounds.
Peninsula (6-0, 14-2), next plays at Shoreline (2-4, 4-15) on Wednesday.
