PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College women’s basketball team clinched a playoff berth with a convincing 91-65 win over Olympic on Saturday, while the Pirates men’s team remained in playoff position with a 97-80 victory over the Rangers.

The women 11-0 in the North Region and 19-2 overall, are one win away from clinching a North championship. Not only did the Pirates win big over a team that nearly knocked off Peninsula earlier this season, they got a couple of key players back for the stretch run into the postseason.

The Pirates were led by Ciera Tugade Agasiva, who shot 6-for-10 from 3-point range and scored 26. Coming back from injury were Shania Moananu, who came off the bench to hit three 3-pointers and score 12. Alecsis Smith, who had been out for weeks, scored 13. Jelissa Julmist added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Neah Bay’s Allie Greene, who played for Peninsula last year, scored 11 for Olympic.

The women can clinch a North title Wednesday with a game at second-place Skagit Valley (8-3, 16-8).

Men’s Basketball Peninsula 97, Olympic 80

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team got a crucial win over the Rangers for playoff positioning with a tough game coming up later this week.

With the victory, the men are at 6-5 in the North Region in fourth place. A loss would have dropped them into a tie for fifth.

The Pirates got huge games from Antonio Odum, Isaiah Lopez and Jaiden Blackmon. Blackmon led the team with 29 points, hitting four 3-pointers. He added eight rebounds.

Lopez also hit four treys and scored 25 to go with five assists, while Odum had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Deshawn Rushmeyer had a solid game with 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Cinco McNeal had eight points and eight rebounds.

Peninsula, 12-12 overall, plays at North-leading and No. 1-ranked Skagit Valley (11-0, 25-1) on Wednesday.
