ARCATA, Calif. — The California Collegiate Athletic Association announced Tuesday that Cal Poly, Humboldt junior Millie Long was named the CCAA Newcomber of the year and a member of the all-CCAA second team.

Long is the first student-athlete in the history of the CCAA to be named newcomer of the year in two sports. She was previously named as a soccer player.

Long was an all-Olympic League soccer and basketball player for Port Angeles High School and she went on the become an all-North Region MVP in both sports. She was also named an NWAC MVP in soccer. She scored 86 goals for the Roughriders girls soccer team and helped lead the basketball team to a 15-0 record in a COVID-shortened season. She also helped lead the Pirates women’s soccer team to an NWAC championship.

Long averaged 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game for Cal Poly, Humboldt. She was second in the conference in assists and 15th in the nation in steals, while also scoring in double figures in 21 out of 25 games, including six games with more than 20 points.

There is no question that she stepped into this conference and had an immediate impact on both ends of the floor. Emilia plays with high energy, great intensity, and is a true competitor. To receive such a great honor in two sports and to make history in the CCAA is remarkable. I appreciate and greatly respect what she brings to our team and I look forward to seeing her continued growth as a basketball player.”

Long was also named to the all-CCAA team in soccer after scoring eight goals to go with seven assists for 23 points in 20 games.
