VANCOUVER — The Peninsula College soccer teams got five women and five men named to the North Region All-Star teams, as the Pirates’ Nil Grau was named the region Most Valuable Player and women’s coach Kanyon Anderson was named coach of the year.

Both the men’s and the women’s teams won the North Region and are in the Northwest Athletic Conference Final Four in Tukwila. The men play No. 1-ranked Columbia Basin at 1:30 p.m. Friday and the women, ranked No. 1 in the NWAC and nationally, play defending champion Spokane at 6:30 p.m.

Grau, a powerful forward from Girona, Spain, had seven goals and nine assists for 23 points for the Pirates. He also had two goals, one on a solo effort from long range and the second on a header on a free kick, in a 3-0 quarterfinals win last weekend over Clark.

Grau was named to the first team forwards along with teammates Tsubasa Abe (seven goals and two assists, 16 points) and Abdurahim Leigh (11 goals, two assists, 24 points).

Making the first team as a defender was Alfie Tucker and as a goalkeeper was Laurin Lettow, who allowed just 11 goals in 10 starts.

Named to the honorable mention team were Pirates Pip van der Ende, Matthew Enriquez (four goals, five assists) and Manny Garcia (nine goals, five assists, 23 points).

Women’s all-stars

Making the first team North for the women were midfielders Taya Bohenko (seven goals, nine assists, 23 points) Caneel Corpuz (nine goals, five assists, 23 points), forward Shawna Larson (18 goals, eight assists, 44 points) and defenders Lauren La Fountain and Gemma Rowland.

Goalkeeper Talia Marini also made first team. She allowed just six goals in 15 starts.

Making the honorable mention team were Sydney Soskis (seven goals, 11 assists, 25 points) and defenders Blake Plummer and Alexia Rodriguez-Burdeaux.

Anderson was named co-coach of the year in the North along with Bellevue’s Richard Romain-Dika.

Anderson’s regional coach of the year award was his ninth in his 14 years of coaching at Peninsula.
