COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula women finish league play unbeaten

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College soccer women wrapped up another undefeated season in league, blanking Edmonds 2-0 for the Pirates’ 11th shutout of the season.

Meanwhile, the men, pretty much locked into second place in the North Division, lost 1-0 to Edmonds on Saturday.

The women’s match was scoreless until the 64th minute when Samantha Guzman for the Pirates finally broke through with a goal to make it 1-0. Taylor Graham added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Emilee Greve assisted both goals.

Andrea Kenagy made three saves in goal to pick up the shutout.

The Pirates had an interesting season with the Tritons. They tied Edmonds 1-1 early in the season, then blew out the Tritons 13-1 and edged them 2-0 in a match that was scoreless for 64 minutes. Edmonds finished third in the North Division and will be a playoff team.

The Pirates finished their regular season unbeaten at 14-0-1 (16-2-1 overall) with the only blemish the tie with Edmonds. As a No. 1 seed, Peninsula gets a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Pirates will play the winner of Portland (7-5-0) and North Idaho (8-3-3) at Wally Sigmar Field on Saturday in the second round of the NWAC playoffs.

The women finish regular season outscoring their league opponents 81-5.

Men’s Soccer

Edmonds 1, Peninsula 0

Peninsula had a very slight chance of still winning the North Division going into Saturday’s match, but after losing to Edmonds 1-0, the Pirates settled for second place in the division.

Peninsula had more shots than Edmonds (9 to 6) and forced six Triton saves compared to two for Peninsula, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Pirates finish the regular season 10-3-2 (11-5-2). As a No. 2 seed in the North Division, they get to host a match at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Pierce College (5-6-1, 6-6-2), a No. 3 seed out of the West Division.
